Facilitated by Sarah, the creative writing classes are perfect for people wanting to enhance their writing skills or simply have some fun, sculpting their ideas and getting feedback from the rest of the group. Every week Sarah will set a writing or reading task for you to explore. The classes will cover a range of genres of writing and use different materials to help fire your imagination!

From time to time, guest speakers join the group to share their writing experiences.  Over the last year we have been very lucky to host the Forward Prize winning poet Liz Berry, Offa’s Press publisher Simon Fletcher, children’s performance poet Pep the Poet, the novelist Anouska Knight, screenwriter Evie Fehilly and former Staffordshire Poet Laureate Bert Flitcroft. In previous years, our guest speakers have included the former Staffordshire Poet Laureate Dawn Jutton, the travel writer Jane Wilson-Howarth, founder and editor of the Fawn Press Scarlett Ward Bennett (who is also the current Staffordshire Poet Laureate), former Staffordshire Poet Laureate Emily Rose Galvin and journalist Mary Murtagh.

Please bring some paper/notebook and pens/pencils.

Sarah has a Master's Degree in English Language, a Bachelor’s Degree in English Literature and has had several non-fiction works published. She has been teaching and tutoring English Language and Literature for over twenty years, including nine years’ teaching creative writing.  She runs a fun, supportive, interesting group where everyone can join in - no matter how nervous you may feel about your abilities.

HAVING ALWAYS WANTED TO WRITE BUT HAVING GOT TO AN AGE WHERE I DOUBTED THAT I HAD ANY IMAGINATION LEFT, I WAS RATHER DUBIOUS ABOUT SIGNING UP FOR THE COURSE. BUT I NEEDN'T HAVE WORRIED. SARAH, THE TUTOR, HAS UNLOCKED SOMETHING LURKING WITHIN AND I HAVE STARTED TO WRITE CREATIVELY - IF ONLY TO PLEASE MYSELF SO FAR. THOROUGHLY RECOMMENDED.
