FILM / EVENT DETAIL

Scrooge

Ebenezer Scrooge, a curmudgeonly, miserly businessman, has no time for sentimentality and largely views Christmas as a waste of time. However, this Christmas Eve, he will be visited by three spirits who will show him the error of his ways.

This 1951 film is widely regarded as the definitive adaptation of Dickens’s classic tale, A Christmas Carol. Faithfully following the novel’s dialogue and plot, it features Alastair Sim’s acclaimed portrayal of Scrooge, capturing both his cold-hearted miserliness and profound transformation. The black-and-white cinematography adds a gothic, period-appropriate mood that deepens the story’s haunting and uplifting themes, making this version a timeless favourite for many.
