Olivia Colman leads an wonderfully eccentric romantic fantasy about love, individuality and refusing to fit in.
On the outskirts of a small, deeply conventional village lives an ostracised fisherwoman, mocked by her neighbours for being single and different. Finally fed up with their narrow-minded attitudes, she asks the local basket-maker, played by Peter Dinklage, to create her something extraordinary: a husband made entirely from wicker.
When her remarkable new companion, played by Alexander Skarsgård, comes to life, their unconventional romance causes fascination, jealousy and ultimately chaos throughout the village.
This wonderfully strange fable has attracted praise for its originality, beautiful cinematography and Olivia Colman’s characteristically fearless performance. One critic described it as an"endlessly beautiful fairy tale", while another praised its comedic spell and satisfying finale.
Funny, fantastical and gloriously unusual, Wicker is a decidedly different love story with an irresistible cast.
