Ghosts: The Possession of Button House

The much-loved BBC comedy Ghosts makes the leap to the big screen, reuniting Alison, Mike and the wonderfully eccentric inhabitants of Button House for an all-new supernatural adventure.

Life has moved on at Button House, but its ghostly residents certainly haven’t. With Alison and Mike away and plans under way to transform the house into a hotel, protests disrupt the development and the ghosts find themselves needing to reach their old living friends. What follows brings the familiar gang back together in a new story that’s quite literally a matter of life and death for Alison, Mike, Mia and the Ghosts.

The original cast return, including Charlotte Ritchie as Alison, Kiell Smith-Bynoe as Mike, Mathew Baynton as Thomas, Jim Howick as Pat, Simon Farnaby as Julian, Lolly Adefope as Kitty, Martha Howe-Douglas as Lady Button, Laurence Rickard as Robin and Ben Willbond as The Captain.

From BBC Favourite to the Big Screen

Running for five series, the original Ghosts became one of Britain’s best-loved television comedies, combining daft humour and wonderfully drawn characters with a surprising amount of warmth.

For the film, the original six writer-performers, Mathew Baynton, Simon Farnaby, Martha Howe-Douglas, Jim Howick, Laurence Rickard and Ben Willbond, are all back, writing the screenplay as well as reprising their roles. The film is directed by Simon Hynd.

With the gang reunited and Button House finally getting the big-screen treatment, this is very much one for existing Ghosts devotees, but its blend of British comedy, family-friendly supernatural fun and larger-than-life characters should make it an easy introduction for newcomers too.

They’re not back... they never left.
