Join us for a new reading group at the Red Carpet Cinema exploring both classic and modern literature. The classes are run by Sarah, an experienced teacher of English and the Red Carpet Creative Writing tutor, who will guide you through the texts in a fun and informative way. Every half term, we will focus on a different text, culminating in a screening of a film adaptation. In the autumn 2021 term, we read and watched two American classics: The Great Gatsby and A Streetcar Named Desire. Our texts for 2022 are yet to be confirmed, but will be one of the following:
- Shakespeare greats – Hamlet, Romeo & Juliet, Macbeth and Othello
- Iconic British novels Frankenstein, A Christmas Carol and Wuthering Heights
- Modern masterpieces Ian McEwan’s Atonement, Kazuo Ishiguro’s Never Let Me Go, Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale and Toni Morrison’s Beloved.
We will enjoy discussions about language and structure as well as characters, plot and theme. You will need a copy of the text and some pens and a notebook. Please contact Sarah for confirmation of this term’s choice.
Please bring some paper/notebook and pens/pencils.
Sarah has a Master's Degree in English Language and has had several non-fiction works published. She has been teaching and tutoring English Language and Literature for nearly twenty years, including five years’ teaching creative writing. She is looking forward to running a fun, supportive, interesting group where everyone can join in no matter how nervous you may feel about your abilities.
